Fabric Love
We're on the heels of Valentines day and naturally love is on the forefront of our minds.
What is love and what does it have to do with fabric?
Wikipedia says, "Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection ("I love my mother") to pleasure.”.
Did you know that you can find symbolism for love in African print fabrics?
Take this fabric, for example:
The meaning of this fabric is "United we stand, but divided we fall.”
This fabric also has the same meaning.
The trees standing upright represents unity and strength.
The falling trees represents division and strife that can often affect relationships.
This fabric is a reminder that relationships are what you make it. The absence of love in any relationship will result in it's failure.
In this fabric you will also see a mother (bird) flying away from her chicks. She is searching for food to bring back to the nest. This is indicative of the true love of a mother. She will never allow her children to go to bed hungry. She's always going the extra mile to provide for her family. Never giving up - although it's hard, a mother that loves does what she has to do to provide for her family. That is love. A mother’s love.
When looking at African prints you can also look at colors in the fabrics as a representation of love.
In the Ghanaian culture, gold is an extremely popular color and it represents wealth and fertility. Blue represents love and peace, it symbolizes the sky and is a harmonious color.
Love is interpreted by perception, actions, emotions and feelings.
Being there for a friend in need, supporting a coworker through a new project, caring for an elderly parent. Whatever your situation is Love is all around you if you open your eyes to it.
The next time you see trees and birds, we hope it will jog your memory. When looking at breathtaking African Fabrics, look for colors and objects that point you to see love.
